How I Create Joyful, Uplifting Art (And How You Can Too!)

I often receive comments about how my art feels joyful, uplifting, and full of life. This isn’t just a happy accident—it’s a deep, intentional process that starts long before I ever pick up a paintbrush. Joyful art begins with the energy I bring to my creative space. Let me share how I tap into this energy and how you can do the same to create art that radiates positivity.

Setting the Stage: Aligning with Energy

Before I begin painting, I take a moment to center myself. I sit upright in a comfortable chair, close my eyes, and tune in to the energies around me. This is where energy work plays a key role in my creative process.

I start by connecting to the vast, limitless energy of the universe—the divine energy of the Milky Way. If you’re new to energy work, imagine your crown chakra (the energy center at the top of your head) gently opening like a lotus flower, allowing pure, high-vibrational energy to flow down into you. You might visualize golden or white light streaming in, filling your entire being with warmth, inspiration, and creative force.

Next, I ground myself by connecting to the terrestrial grid beneath me. Imagine roots growing from the soles of your feet, extending deep into the earth. To enhance this visualization, I picture a flower at the bottom of each foot slowly blooming open, allowing me to receive grounding, stabilizing energy from the earth. This balance between celestial inspiration and earthly grounding helps create a strong, energized foundation for my work.

Setting an Intent for Your Art

Energy follows intention, so before I pick up a brush, I consciously set an intent that only the highest divine light will flow through me as I paint. You can set your own intention, but here are a few that I personally love:

  • I create from a place of pure joy and love.

  • The colors and shapes I choose will bring light and happiness to others.

  • My art will be a reflection of beauty, peace, and harmony.

  • I allow creativity to flow freely and effortlessly.

By holding these intentions in my heart, I ensure that my art carries a vibrational quality of joy and positivity.

Bringing This Energy Into Your Painting

Once I begin painting, I stay mindful of how the energy feels as it moves through me. If I ever feel stuck or frustrated, I pause, take a breath, and reconnect to my intention. Sometimes, I’ll gently shake my hands to release any tension or negativity and allow the creative flow to return.

I also use color intentionally. Bright, warm hues like yellows, pinks, and oranges naturally bring a sense of happiness, while energetic brushstrokes and flowing shapes add a sense of movement and lightness. I don’t overthink—I allow intuition to guide my choices, trusting that the joyful energy I set at the beginning will continue to unfold on the canvas.

Inviting Joyful Energy into Your Art Practice

If you want to create more uplifting, joyful art, I encourage you to try these steps before you begin painting:

  1. Find a comfortable place to sit and close your eyes.

  2. Visualize connecting to the universe through your crown chakra, allowing divine light to flow into you.

  3. Imagine your feet opening like flowers to receive grounding energy from the earth.

  4. Set a positive intention for your art and your creative session.

  5. Stay mindful of your energy as you paint, and return to your intention if needed.

When you approach your art with this kind of mindful, intentional energy, you’ll find that your work naturally carries a sense of joy, light, and love. And the best part? The people who see your art will feel it too.
